Humidity control is an essential aspect of protective packaging. Humidity is a threat that is hard to notice but can nevertheless cause extensive destruction to machinery and sensitive equipment. Without the right type of protection, exposure to humidity can lead to corrosion. At Protective Packaging Corporation, we specialize in the manufacture of humidity control packaging--offering a number of effective approaches.
One of the most efficient solutions to fight humidity comes in the form of our moisture barrier bags, also referred to as vapor barrier bags. By placing an object within a controlled environment where no moisture can affect it, the damaging effects of humidity can be entirely eliminated. Our moisture barrier bags are designed with the most effective barrier material currently available. With an MVTR of 0.02, only 0.02 grams of moisture can penetrate the bag over 24 hours in 95 percent humidity.
Vapor corrosion inhibitors (VCIs) are another product that can aid in the protection of humidity. VCIs are extremely inexpensive yet provide excellent results. VCIs work by slowing down the process of metal oxidation. Essentially, they are chemicals that create a protective barrier on the metal surface to which they are applied. Used properly, they can provide effective protection for a number of years.
In addition to moisture barrier bags and VCIs, desiccants are also effective tools in humidity-control packaging. Made of moisture-absorbing materials, desiccants simply absorb any moisture present in the air, thus protecting whatever item they are packaged with. They can be used on their own or preferably in conjunction with a moisture barrier bag for maximum humidity control.
